Saturday Journaling Prompt:

Where and how do I avoid getting started on my goals?

Watch on YouTube for MAXIMUM ENJOYMENT

So your dreams are well envisioned. You’ve set some well-intended goals, now it’s time to TAKE ACTION AND GET STARTED.

Regardless of the size, actions are the small steps that get you from point A to point B. Without action, your dreams and goals are just, well..dreams and goals that take up way too much space on the starting line.

Why are you afraid to take action and get started?

Maybe the goal is just too big and it feels like you’ll never get to the finish line. Of course, your dreams are big, brassy, and bold but taking small baby steps eliminates that feeling of overwhelm, and you’re much more likely to take action when the goal is manageable and within your reach. Breaking down big tasks into bite-sized, do-able ones is key to the success of your goals.

Small manageable baby steps lay the foundation for the execution of your goal. Your goals and dreams, intentions, ideas, hopes, wishes, and words lay dormant in the shadows and only manifest in the physical realm the moment you TAKE ACTION. Remember baby steps win the race every time.

Why are you afraid to take action and get started?

Because the journey to the end of the road is much too long. Of course, the journey is long. It’s long, tough, exhausting, and at times feels darn right impossible. When you focus on the destination every step feels burdensome. Your energy shifts to the outcome and you alienate yourself from the process. ‘I should be 150lbs by now. ‘I expect to be a senior manager before I reach 35.’ ‘I need to hit $4,000 in savings by the end of the year .’

An outcome-focused approach anchors you to the future instead of staying connected to the present moment, the present moment is where the magic happens. Focusing on the process and not the results, deepens your learning. You catch things in the moment that otherwise would have been lost in anxious anticipation of future events.

You don’t lose sight of your why in the process. Why am I doing this? Why does it matter? Is it worth the sacrifice? Introducing a present-moment approach to your goals is much more holistic because it is rooted in meaning, purpose, passion, and the sheer enjoyment of what you’re doing. Remember, when you take action and get started, focus on how far you have come and not how far you have left to go. The former compels you to keep going, whereas the latter sets you up to fail.

Why are you afraid to take action and get started?

Because it all seems so vague and haphazard. There’s no clear path, you’re all over the place. You’re here, there, and everywhere, some days just going through the motions. Intention. Intention. Intention. Being intentional about taking action means you take action on purpose. You keep your eyes on the prize and maintain laser-focused precision as you move forward toward your goal. You don’t look left, you don’t look right, you keep your eyes straight ahead and get to the gym on purpose. Take your daily walk on purpose. find your life partner on purpose. Choose what kind of day you want to have, on purpose.

Words and intentions are great but it’s action that creates change and defines who you are. Confidence and self-esteem follows action and supports you to get out there and take on the world. Your personal power is in the action that you take today which ultimately determines what your life will look like tomorrow. The first step is always the most difficult but remember, one step turns into 2, then 3 then 10 then 100 and before you know it, you’re killing it! You’re carving out your own path and owning your very own piece of greatness! So think baby steps, process, not outcome, think SMART and intentional when it comes to taking action.

We waste a lot of time procrastinating and simply ‘not getting’ started. Instead, begin!

Here are five questions to get inspired, take action, and get started on your goals!

  1. What is the very first step towards my goals? And the next step?
  2. What stops me from starting? What could I do about that?
  3. What’s the easiest step I could take? The smallest action step?
  4. Which action calls to me? Which action leaps out at, or grabs me?
  5. Imagine you’ve just had an ideal week. What three things did you complete?

Ponder these questions and then choose 1-3 actions to do this week!

JOURNALING

Journaling matters. It matters because your feelings, thoughts, goals, and dreams are important. It matters because you deserve a space to be creative, to be open, to be honest, and to be free. Journaling matters because you’re worth the time to discover your truth. To explore your needs and wants, your likes dislikes, and sometimes your raw, unadulterated hate. It is ALL part of who you are and helps you to understand your unique story while preparing you for the long, somewhat turbulent journey ahead.

With grace and gratitude
