Noise Everywhere

We live in a fast-paced, noise-filled world. Our very first daily dose of noise comes in the form of an obnoxious buzzer interrupting an otherwise glorious, peaceful sleep. From then on, we are conjoined at the hip with this inescapable burden called noise.

It finds itself in all the nooks and crannies of our lives. A warm relaxing shower is incomplete…without some Rihanna or your favorite classical track blasting away in the background. The commute to work is a playground of sound, from trains to traffic, construction to super-sonic planes dominating the air space. The loudness of your neighbor mowing his lawn, and sirens blasting the atmosphere, en route to a sudden emergency.

The baby’s screaming, Netflix streaming, and the kids have been arguing all day. Co-worker’s chatter, office cling clatter, and Gmail pinging…always.
Facebook reminders notifying you of this and that, Twitter, and Instagram too. And how on earth could you get through the day without checking your YouTube views? Dog barking, tv blasting, noise to drive you insane, mind chatter, intrusive thoughts, it’s enough to explode your brain.

But with a constant stream of noise all around, how will you ever hear the sound of silence or rest in moments of solitude? For It is in moments of beautiful solitude that you connect to the desires of your heart, and unravel your emotions. Prioritize your needs and your wants. It is when you are with yourself that you see yourself, listen and discern with greater vision and accuracy. By embracing the interior of your inner world, you ignite the path that leads to life’s treasures, life’s learning, and life’s purpose.

In the confines of solitude, you discover that you are not alone, there are whispers of something unknown. Quietness and listening to nature are restorative and enriching to your body, mind, and spirit. It can spark creativity, build mental agility and increase a sense of calm. In beautiful solitude, you activate parts of your brain that give rise to awareness, intuition, and wisdom.

Sitting in silence, in flow with your breath, renews your energy, and reconnects you with your authentic self.

Time without distraction is kind and nurturing to your inner self. It deepens insight into who you are and engenders patience and compassion. Silence is the gift you give yourself that relieves stress, anxiety, and worry. It creates a space to self-reflect, and embark upon some serious soul-searching. You find strength in solitude and throughout life’s journey, it becomes your trusted companion.

Savor moments of silence, and rest in beautiful solitude for there you will find wholeness and peace.

There is nothing quite so thrilling as spending meaningful time with you.

Here are 5 questions to inspire you to create a beautiful solitude for yourself.

  1. How do I typically feel when I’m alone with myself? Why do I think that is?
  2. How would it be to use solitude to renew my energy and reconnect with myself?
  3. If I were to imagine a beautiful solitude, what would it look, feel, taste, smell, and sound like? Describe.
  4. When did I last rest, reflect on my life, and nurture my Soul?
  5. How could my life be different if I created space for beautiful solitude?

Ponder these questions over the week ahead. Journal around them to go deeper.

JOURNALING

Journaling is the perfect fit for spending time in solitude. It is truth-seeking and truth-living because it’s a deep dive into the chambers of your inner-self. No fakeness or facade, no make-up or mask, just you, raw, uncut, and real. Seeking truth, seeking answers to understand yourself more, fully, deeper, and with unequivocal acceptance. Journal your heart out, write it all down, and get it all out. Be open and honest, committed, and consistent because Journaling is empowering and can lead to productive thinking, constructive choices, and the internal power to self-direct your life.
